Veja instalações de arte ambiciosas e experimentais que ativam o Paradise Courtyard do MOCA como parte do programa inaugural de comissionamento público do museu, Welcome to Paradise . Para a segunda instalação da série do programa, Welcome to Paradise apresenta Into the Great Dying: Roles We Play , uma instigante instalação de escultura em cerâmica que envolve a paisagem marinha e destaca os ecossistemas de recifes de corais em declínio e o impacto das ações humanas.
Como alternativa à retórica sobre como os humanos contribuíram para danificar os frágeis ecossistemas da Terra, esta instalação incentiva o público a participar da reconstrução de um recife. A experiência tátil de manter réplicas de espécies de corais locais em risco visa criar uma experiência de base para os visitantes, incentivando-os a adotar uma abordagem consciente do clima em rápida mudança.
A instalação apresenta centenas de peças fundidas à mão que representam várias espécies de corais nativos. Quando montadas pelos visitantes, as esculturas resultantes representam o sistema de recifes do sul da Flórida. As cinco espécies selecionadas pelo artista são chifre-de-veado (Acropora cervicornis), chifre-de-alce (Acropora palmata), coral-cérebro (Diploria labyrinthiformis), coral-pilar (Dendrogyra cylindricus) e leque-do-mar (Gorgonia ventalina). Estas espécies variam em forma e tamanho, refletindo a biodiversidade local. Cada um é comum à área e está em risco de extinção ou usado para projetos de restauração, como viveiros de corais.
Welcome to Paradise apresenta projetos temporários de arte pública de artistas locais do sul da Flórida. A edição inaugural de Welcome to Paradise apresentará artistas com trabalhos que exploram a interseção entre ecologia e tecnologia. A exposição foi possível graças ao grande apoio da Fundação John S. e James L. Knight. Apoio adicional foi fornecido pela The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.
